Pentakill, the League of Legends inspired rock group, has come out with a few new singles which can only mean one thing. And today marks the release of their 8-track album, appropriately titled "Smite and Ignite." Created as a gift for "metal-loving League of Legends players," you can download the entire album for free here The album will also be available for purchase through digital music retailers for those of you who prefer paid services to organize your music collections.
Grasp of the Undying was recorded in the catacombs of the Shadow Isles , and engineered and produced by Riot Games in Los Angeles, CA and London, UK. It was also mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Circus Maximus, Anubis Gate, etc.). Lyric videos for the pre-released songs ‘Tear Of The Goddess' and ‘The Bloodthirster' have already racked up over a million views between them, thanks to the unique bond the gamer has to the band.
In 2014 the Riot label issued the band's first foray out of the video game realm, an eight-track collection of appropriately punishing songs titled Smite and Ignite that relied on the talents of session musicians, including vocalists Jorn Lande (Masterplan) and ZP Theart (Dragonforce).
Although the bulk of the work was done by Riot Games' in-house composers and sound designers, the album also features collaborations with some of metal's most respected musicians - there are cameos from the likes of Tommy Lee , Nine Inch Nails alumnus Danny Lohner and Noora Louhimo, singer with the Finnish metal band Battle Beast.
I really liked it. I do like metal so obviously I would but i'm surprised Riot actually did something metal not like some hard rock passed off as metal thing. We were able to chat exclusively with Lande over email and he told us about the making of the new album and how his Karthus persona has undergone a recent upgrade.
This ranking is based on the lifetime Pentakills done in ranked games. Pentakill Mordekaiser, Sona, and Olaf are more metal than ever. Sona S L , and while the other league of legends members of the band split to the far corners of Runeterra in despair, she was consumed with the desire to craft soaring, symphonic rock operas.
An in-game heavy metal band from the massively popular multi-player online video game League of Legends, Pentakill operates somewhere between the opulent, fantasy-driven power metal of Dragonforce and the gimmicky, yet cleverly constructed inside metal of Dethklok.
In addition to this tight timeframe, we also had to get on the same page with the Riot Games music department, with the actual musicians who made the tracks, with the graphic designers who created the band members, and with the marketing team responsible for promoting the game and the album.
And to crank it up a notch, Mordekaiser, Sona, Karthus, Olaf, and Yorick are taking the stage with new splash art, in-game models, and an all new summoner icon. A green smoke suddenly formed and popped Karthus, the lead singer of the rock band. You can read more about the band and that album here , covering them was actually one of the very first articles that I ever wrote for Metal Insider.
JL: I'm a terrible League of Legends” player, but back in the day I was pretty good at Space Invaders,” Ms. Pacman,” Donkey Kong Jr.” and Street Fighter.” Then around 20 years later I joined my kids playing the great Super Mario” and other various Nintendo and PlayStation games.
Three years after the release of Smite & Ignite, Pentakill II: Grasp Of The Undying is a full length, 10-track record showcasing the multi-faceted talents of the music professionals and avid production team involved, and featuring genre-influences ranging from power metal, NWOBHM, thrash, modern progressive death metal, and even industrial.
